Collection: Stray Wanderings

Stray Wanderings is a collaboration between artists Lucie Wellner and Jen Gandee. 

Project Statement: This collection represents a process of discovery and an appreciation for the amazing acts and deeds of women living and dead.  It is not intended to be definitive. It is personal, responsive and has a meandering yet focused quality much like a good conversation between good friends.  We sincerely hope the project will continue to evolve and expand to include more important figures.  We see this as a start, not the end result.  We began the project with thoughts toward systematic choosing, categories, cause and effect, and connective threads.  But through making we found it more important (and fun) to follow our eye and intuition. We paired featured subjects with botanical elements chosen to represent an aspect of their personality, culture, heritage, or their lasting impact on society.  The images were collaged from different sources, digitally manipulated, turned into a decal transfer, and applied and fired onto hand-made ceramic plates.

We hope this work inspires you to continue the conversation, and to learn more about the work and positions of women who have impacted your life and our collective history.
